YOUTHWORKS COLLEGE THEOLOGY THINK TANK | 19 OCT 7:30pm - 9pm

Topic: Top-down and bottom-up: Analysing and healing a fracture in youth, children and family mission and ministry.

 Speakers - Robin Barfield and Gareth Crispin

 When: Oct 19, 2023 07:30 PM Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney

Join us for our next Theology Think Tank on 19 October as Robin Barfield and Garth Crispin discuss the topic ‘Top-down and bottom-up: Analysing and healing a fracture in youth, children and family mission and ministry.’

There is a fracture emerging in Youth Children and Families (YCF) Mission and Ministry (M&M).  It can be seen in approaches or models of YCF M&M but also in different responses to issues arising in YCF M&M (for example, disability, sexuality and education).

This Think Tank will explore:

1. Where we see these approaches in YCF M&M;

2. Why the two approaches exist (including sociological and theological foundations and why bottom-up approaches have become more popular/prevalent);

3. What problems each approach brings to YCF M&M;

4. How we might navigate a way forward that takes the best of both approaches and mitigates against the problems both approaches have.

Gareth Crispin has PhD in Family Ministry and Intergenerational Church and is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association for the Study of Youth Ministry.

Robin Barfield is a PhD candidate at Spurgeon’s College researching child spirituality and pedagogies. He is married with 4 children.
